Our team has been very impressed with what we've seen this past quarter, and we're excited to share these ideas with the rest of the ESP community.

Virginia Tech shares video content with incoming families to help drive portal engagement

In efforts to generate engagement and boost awareness of the Hokie Family Hub, Virginia Tech shared this video with incoming families over the summer. Check it out — the video has nearly 5,000 views!

Gabby McCollum, Associate Dean and Director of New Student and Family Programs at Virginia Tech, summed it up best:

“Not only is CampusESP an amazing product that our Hokie families love and use regularly, but their customer service is unbeatable! CampusESP has changed the way we communicate and engage with our families.”

Thanks for all the love, Virginia Tech!

Buena Vista University uses posts to help build parent community within the portal

We loved seeing Buena Vista get creative with content this quarter. BVU prompted parents to leave a comment about why their student chose BVU.

Hear from both Conner Ellinghuysen (Director of Admissions) and Christine Ellinghuysen (Marketing & Communications Coordinator), the dream team that made it happen:

"The reason we wanted to create a post like this is because we wanted parents to share their experience of going through the college search process, and we hoped that parents would then find other parents to talk to. It was a fun way to have parents share their stories and engage with us in a different way. To create the post, we wanted to keep it simple with a catchy graphic and couple of questions to help start the dialogue with parents."

Way to go, BVU!

Penn State translates announcements to Mandarin and Spanish

Penn State has had a long-standing goal of meeting the needs of international and non-English speaking families. Through announcements, PSU started reaching groups such as Spanish-speaking families and Mandarin-speaking families ... and seeing open rates as high as 75%!

Cyndy Hill, Director of the Penn State Parents Program, said:

"This year we were finally able to translate our Parents and Families Guide into both Mandarin and Spanish. Since many of our Chinese families do not travel to campus with their students, we use the portal as a way to reach these families. With the help of our Global office and a Spanish-speaking parent volunteer, we were able to translate announcements. The open rates have been really affirming that we are doing the right thing."

Keep it up, PSU!

University of Maryland, Baltimore County streamlines communication with Family Advisory Board

Through a dedicated community, UMBC has been able to easily communicate with their Family Advisory Board members about meeting notes and reminders, volunteer opportunities, and more!

Hear more from Fritzie Charné-Merriwether, UMBC's Special Assistant to the Vice President for Student Affairs:

"Our Family Advisory Board Community has been such a resource for me as an administrator and for my advisory board members. Prior to its establishment, we relied solely on Google Drive and emails to manage communication within the board. This caused me to have to constantly reshare emails and documents, particularly as we welcomed new members. With the private community space, all communication is centralized in one place. Current and new board members are able to stay connected to all board-related matters. This past year has been our most active and engaged board ever, and I have no doubt that this resource helped us achieve that milestone."

Take that, Google Drive!
