Jacksonville State quickly scales family engagement and data access with new Banner QuickStart feature

When enrollment management, the registrar’s office, and IT at Jacksonville State University all began discussing how to improve their family communications, it made perfect sense that they should work together … and utilize one comprehensive platform to do it.

CampusESP became the vehicle to help them level up their family engagement strategy — and became one of the quickest implementations Jacksonville State has ever seen. Check out their story.

A platform for “friendly” communication and data sharing with families

Emily White knows a good thing when she sees it. “We had been wanting CampusESP since 2017!” the registrar at Jacksonville State shared.

Then last year, the university agreed on a strategic priority to increase the level of parent communication and provide families the best service possible. That included implementing CampusESP for Family Communication and CampusESP for FERPA Management

“Our slogan is that we are the ‘Friendliest Campus in the South’ and we needed to embody that. Investing in CampusESP as the tool for us to do this means we can now provide the most up-front and up-to-date information possible so our parents can feel connected.”

Launch FERPA Management in less than 3 weeks with Banner QuickStart

CampusESP for FERPA Management modernizes FERPA processes by offering both parent-initiated and student-initiated digital FERPA waivers. Once students approve their parent’s’s FERPAr request, parents can view a dashboard of the student’s academic and financial data in CampusESP, including holds, bills, financial aid information, and student status. Email alerts notify parents when the data changes, or when it’s time to step in and get involved.

The key behind these timely alerts is an integration between CampusESP and the institution’s Student Information System (SIS).

In order to make that integration set-up easier, we recently released Banner QuickStart, an integration option in which all integration scripts come pre-built. IT teams only need to plug it in and enable Single Sign-On (SSO) to set up the data integration.

Banner QuickStart was developed with help from existing customers, so that new customers can launch FERPA Management with less IT time and effort.

We typically say that Banner QuickStart allows you to launch FERPA Management in three weeks, but Jacksonville State was able to set up their Banner integration in only 7 days!

One of Jacksonville State’s easiest implementations

Jax State’s IT team reviewed multiple solutions to help streamline their FERPA waiver process, some of which would require a significant lift from the team.

“Some were very complicated,” shared Candice Truitt, systems analyst. “But since we were already bringing on CampusESP and it integrates with Banner, we thought it would be the best move.”

Jax State was one of the first institutions to utilize Banner QuickStart as part of their implementation process.

“I’m responsible for all scripts, and for me it gave me a good jumpstart,” said Truitt. “If the package hadn’t been given to us I would still be writing the scripts to get everything set up. The Banner QuickStart option cut our time in half — at least.”

“The implementation was certainly easier than what I thought,” said White. “We’d dealt with Banner and other software implementations before, but this was one of the easiest ones, and I’m very pleased with that. And we love the finished product!”

Now live, the Jax State team is able to easily share updates on student data, so parents can help keep their students on track and progressing towards a degree.
